While The Republic is pervasive in our culture, many of us have likely not read the book and may be unfamiliar with some of the concepts presented in it. I want to explore the concept of Platonic ideals developed in the book as I find it to be a helpful tool in explaining a condition I discovered I have. Some of you likely have this condition, too.


When it comes to fitness, I have become a little bit of a data nerd. I like having metrics that allow me to track changes. Recently, I went into DexaFit Madison to undergo some testing and gain some further insights into my health and fitness. Here is a low down on the tests and procedures, and a bit of discussion around the results and how I plan to use them.


A common question I get when talking about running ultra-marathons is "How do you stay motivated?". The answer, I don't. I'm going to let you in on a secret that probably seems counterintuitive. Motivation is overhyped. It over-sells and under-delivers every time. Motivation is almost completely worthless. So, let's flesh out the problems with motivation then look at a more reliable way of achieving goals.


Here’s a short preview of Why I Run. I hope to elaborate on this later, but Here’s a start.

Running has helped me through some of my darkest times. Running saved my life. And because running gave me a new lease on life, I owe part of my new life to running. So I have set out to become the best runner I can and find my limits.
